- With the foundation of SATEC Arabia and SATEC UK, Grupo SATEC steps forward in its internationalization strategy.
- Intelcom, the SATEC Group subsidiary in Morocco, acts as a hub for the company’s expansion in nearby countries.
- Present in Africa for over 20 years, Grupo SATEC reinforces its commitment to services and Morocco with Satec Global Services (SGS).
The Spanish multinational SATEC, strongly committed to internationalization strategy since its foundation, is investing in the foreign market during tough times of slow economic growth.
The company was born in 1988 in Spain and Portugal. Shortly after this, it set its internationalization focus on Africa, where it has been working for more than 20 years. A clear example of this is the case of Intelcom, the subsidiary in Morocco, which has become one of the main integrators. Recently, the company has also strengthened its expansion into other territories, specifically the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.
To this end, Grupo SATEC has established SATEC UK this year 2021, which is already providing technology services to major companies in sectors such as energy and audiovisual industries. Meanwhile, the company operates in Saudi Arabia, where it has been incorporated as SATEC Arabia and has just completed its first security consultancy project for one of the country’s leading companies. These two new centers of activity show great growth potential. To be successful, Grupo SATEC plans to focus its services on cybersecurity, data management and governance, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation solutions.
However, the company’s clear internationalization strategy becomes evident in its strong commitment to the African continent. This is thanks to the good brand reputation achieved by Intelcom in Morocco, which acts as a hub for many of the nearby countries where the Group seeks to expand.
SATEC Global Services (SGS) based in Tétouan
The commitment with Africa comes to fruition with SATEC Global Services (SGS), a company based in Tetouan. SGS’s mission is to provide valuable services to multinational companies, whether local, from Spain, or even international entities interested in the Moroccan region.
As stated by Luis Rodríguez-Ovejero, President of Grupo SATEC, “Choosing Tetouan as our center of operations is not accidental: we find its proximity to the Iberian Peninsula, its culture and the existence of important technical training centers in the area very appealing. Through SGS, we create high-quality local employment in the Information and Communications Technology sector, and we offer our employees the opportunity to grow professionally, preserving their heritage, with no need to change their residence.”
Currently, the Tetouan Center provides technological services to important Spanish telecommunication companies, banks, and the automotive sector. It also complements Grupo SATEC’s activities in other Service Centers in Spain, specifically in Galicia, the Basque Country, and Castilla y León. The SGS workforce in Morocco has been reinforced in 2021 and now has more than 60 employees after being awarded the maintenance of IT infrastructures for its factories in Spain, Morocco, and Tunisia by a large company in the automotive sector.
Grupo SATEC has managed to continue its activity and retain all its staff (about 1,200 employees) through remote working for more than a year, immediately from the beginning of the pandemic and without any impact on the activity of its customers.
The company has turned the difficulty of traveling to other countries into an opportunity. It has spent this time internally reorganizing its operations and strengthening its position for international reopening. Specifically, it has focused on seeking efficiency in its exports, improving business processes, and accelerating the digital transformation of remote sites. Grupo SATEC expects an upturn at the end of 2021 and during 2022, thanks to ongoing opportunities pending consolidation.
