Context

The project aims to address the need to update and optimize the network infrastructure of the Data Processing Center (CPD) of the Agency for Technological Modernization of Galicia (AMTEGA). Additionally, in this project, SATEC emphasized improving availability, security, and operational efficiency of the agency's technological infrastructure. The project proposed a structural transformation of AMTEGA’s network infrastructure through the implementation of advanced Cisco technologies, such as the Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) in a software-defined network (SDN) environment. As a Gold Partner of Cisco and OpenText, SATEC has ensured the use of cutting-edge technologies and a high level of technical support throughout the project.

Challenge

The challenges associated with this project were:

Improvements

Improve the availability and redundancy of the network infrastructure.

SDN Solution

Ensure the integration of the SDN solution with existing monitoring platforms (OpenText NOM).

Failures

Ensure resilience and fault tolerance across the entire network infrastructure.

Node Expansion

Implement a scalable and flexible solution that allows for the expansion of nodes based on future growth.

Multipod Architecture

Adapt the infrastructure to support a multipod architecture that enables operational continuity and redundancy between CPDs.

Solution

The solution implemented by SATEC is based on an SDN network architecture using Cisco ACI, with a multipod approach to ensure redundancy across different data centers. The implementation includes:

A cluster of APIC controllers in a 2+2 configuration, providing high availability in case of up to two node failures or a complete data center outage.

Results

The implementation of this solution resulted in a highly available, scalable, and resilient infrastructure that:

1

Improved

Improves operational redundancy and availability, ensuring continuity even in case of node or complete data center failures.

2

Facilitates Management

Facilitates network management and monitoring through automated and integrated tools, optimizing deployment and operation times.

3

Scalability

Ensures future scalability, allowing integration of new nodes and CPDs without significant service interruptions.

4

Security and Segmentation

Increases network security and segmentation by providing a multi-tenant environment that isolates configurations and policies for each entity or application.
