Context
The General Secretariat for Digital Administration (SGAD) plays a key role in the digitalization of public administrations in Spain, providing transversal services through the SARA cloud, a hybrid cloud infrastructure that enables different public organizations to share and manage technological resources efficiently and securely.
In 2021, an ambitious technological upgrade process of the SARA cloud was launched, with the primary goal of ensuring the performance, scalability and security of its critical network infrastructures. This process, divided into multiple phases, focused on the evolution of the LAN communication transport infrastructure and data center interconnection (DCI), a crucial element for the connection and management of key services for public administrations.

Challenge
The magnitude of the project and its importance for the continuity of digital services in public administrations presented a series of key challenges:
Meeting strict deadlines:
Given the project's scope and the need to ensure the operability of the SARA Cloud, it was essential to complete the upgrade within very tight timeframes.
Seamless migration with no service impact
The infrastructure had to evolve without affecting the availability of essential services for public organizations
Scalability and technological compatibility
Ensure compatibility with existing infrastructures and prepare the network for future expansions.
Critical environment management
Updating a highly critical environment that required precision and axhaustive coordination to avoid disruptions.

Solution
To address these challenges, SATEC has carried out various deployment phases since 2021, with a total investment of nearly 6 million euros, supplying and installing advanced infrastructure based on Cisco ACI technology, using cutting-edge equipment such as Nexus 9000.
To ensure high performance and low-latency connectivity between data centers.

Results
Thanks to the solution implemented by SATEC, the SGAD has successfully modernized its network infrastructure, strengthening its ability to provide secure and efficient digital services to public administrations. The main business benefits include:
Improved service continuity
The seamless migration has ensured the permanent availability of critical services.
Scalability and future readiness
The new infrastructure allows for easy growth and adaptation to future demands of the digital environment.
Simplified network management
The adoption of Cisco ACI has centralized and automated management, reducing operational complexity and response times to incidents.
Enhanced security
Application-based network policies provide greater control and protection of sensitive traffic.
Cost and resource optimization
By consolidating the infrastructure and unifying management, operational efficiency has improved, reducing maintenance and support costs.
With this project, the General Secretariat for Digital Administration is at the forefront of technological modernization of public administrations, ensuring a solid and scalable foundation for future digital growth.
